Adil B. Hassam joined the University of Maryland faculty in 1978 after receiving his doctorate in astrophysical sciences from Princeton University.
Prof. Hassam's current research focus is on innovative confinement concepts in fusion. He is a co-investigator on the Maryland Centrifugal Experiment (MCX), which is a novel approach to fusion energy that utilizes centrifugal forces to augment conventional magnetic forces to confine plasmas for fusion. He also conducts research in theoretical plasma physics as applied to MCX and other innovative fusion concepts. His general research interests are in plasma physics as applied to fusion, space, solar, and astrophysical plasmas.
Prof. Hassam is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
