Wes Lawson received the B.S. degree in mathematics (1980) and the B.S. (1980), M.S. (1981), and Ph.D. (1985) degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland. He worked for three three years as a research scientist before joining the faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department.

Professor Lawson is leading experimental and theoretical studies in fast-wave devices, thermionic electron guns, and high power microwave components. Major efforts include the gyroklystron and the pre-bunched gyrotron programs.
