Ki-Yong Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics at the University of Maryland, College Park. He received his B.S. degree from Korea University, Seoul, South Korea, in 1995 and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Maryland at College Park in 2003, all in physics. He then worked as a Director's Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico.

Dr. Kim's research interests include ultrafast optical, x-ray, and terahertz science, and high-energy density laboratory plasma.

He was the winner of the Marshall N. Rosenbluth Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award presented by the American Physical Society in 2004. In 2008, he was the recipient of the Postdoctoral Distinguished Performance Award at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

He is a member of the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America.
