Raymond C. Elton | ![]() |
Raymond C. Elton received his doctorate in physics from the University of Maryland in 1963 and rejoined the University in 1993 and also in 1988 on a one-year sabbatical from the Naval Research Laboratory.
Dr. Elton's expertise lies in the areas of optical and spectroscopic diagnostics of high temperature plasmas and in particular the development and understanding of lasers for the x-ray spectral region. In that regard, he is the author of the seminal book in the field entitled "X-ray Lasers." He is presently involved in fielding diagnostics for fusion experiments and for measuring spectral line intensities and profiles in laser-produced plasmas.
Dr. Elton is a Fellow of both the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America. He is also the recipient of the Sigma Xi Pure Science Award.
