Magnetic Reconnection
Prof. James Drake, Dr. Marc Swisdak

Magnetic reconnection occurs in fusion reactors, the Earth's magnetosphere, the solar corona, and astrophysical accretion jets. It is often the dominant process by which magnetic energy is converted into plasma thermal and kinetic energy. We study reconnection both theoretically and with numerical simulations on some of the largest available supercomputers.
