My theoretical research is to try out new ideas for fusion reactors or improvements on existing systems. Sometimes we go about this by "numerical experiments," good questions posed that can be answered by running an existing code with the right setup to experiment with the situational question. A good example is a 2006 paper in Physics of Plasma by I. Shamim et al. Shamim is a University of Maryland undergraduate student.
