Undergraduate Summer Research Program
IREAP-USR
Application Deadline for 2011 Summer Semester is Sunday, May 15, 2011
A Fellows Program for Research in Physical Sciences and Engineering
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
As part of our education mission, the Institute for Research in
Electronics and Applied Physics endeavors to enhance the preparation of
students for careers in science and engineering. Toward that goal, IREAP
has initiated the Undergraduate Summer Research (USR) Program which
seeks to broaden the education experience of undergraduate science and
engineering students through direct involvement in IREAP research projects. In
addition to its intrinsic educational value, the program provides
students a competitive edge in applying for jobs or graduate study.
The IREAP USR program introduces undergraduates to the discipline and rewards of
leading edge research projects. Students are expected to spend approximately 20 hours
per week on their respective research projects (actual workload is up to negotiation between
the student and mentor). Students will be paid hourly-based salaries.
Awardees are required to submit project reports at the end of the summer. In addition, students may be required to present a
poster or other presentation at the end of the project.
ELIGIBILITY
Undergraduate students in science, mathematics, and engineering who have
completed at least 14 credit hours and have attained a minimum GPA of 3.2
are eligible to apply for IREAP USR program.
Mentors must be IREAP teaching or research faculty (Permanent Faculty). Students may submit
only one application.
