Our research goals are to study several fundamental issues related to the effects of microwaves on diffusion, grain growth, and energy deposition within ceramic materials.

Our research is focused on several areas:

• Measure and quantitatively model the complex permittivity of ceramic composites.
• Develop numerical modeling of microwave sintering, including absorption of electromagnetic waves, heat transport and densification of the sample.
• Investigate the electric field focusing in ceramic meso- and micro- structures during microwave sintering.
• Improve temperature measurements during microwave heating and microwave processing control.
• Synthesize novel composite systems for processing.
• Perform dual frequency processing.
• Microwave processing of ceramic materials and postsintering characterization.
• Diffusion, grain growth, and sintering studies.
